thirty four years is not very long...

as i remember it...

on july 27, 1979, barely out of high school and very much in love (and even more crazy than we were in love) cliff and i took a drive to covington, ky. where we were secretly married. :)

eloped!
took the leap!
jumped the broom!

to say things got kinda crazy when the news got out was an understatement...

my precious wedding band... wearing very thin. i think that's a good problem to have :)

several years and two children later, it began to weigh on my heart that the people we loved most had missed out on the most important event of our lifetime. and so after much conversation and planning cliff and i decided to once again 'surprise' our parents and renew our wedding vows without them having a clue what was going on until it was playing out in front of them. :) we invited cliff's parents and some of his family to what they thought was my family reunion at my mamaw's home in breathit county, ky. i got in touch with a dear minister, friend to perform the ceremony, delegated one cousin to take snapshots, another cousin to video the day and we were all set!

the theme was kinda victorian, kinda vintage...
very simple...
very beautiful...
very perfect...

this morning,
on the week of our 34th anniversary,
i brought out into the delicious morning sun here at thorn hill, our haven home,

the treasures i still have of that day...

i hand tied every tiny, satin bow and then sewed them all down the front...

i bought a simple white cotton dress and began to add the beautiful details that made it my own...

added loads of lace to my hat...
hand made lace gloves...

what's left of my now, timeworn bouquet...

the hand embroidered ring pillow i made for our son chris to carry our rings on...

some of my 'awesome, priceless to me' wedding photos...

thirty four years with someone...
you love as much as air itself...
whose heart beats to the same rhythm as yours...
who truly knows you and still truly loves you...
who is the perfect dad to his children and papaw to his grands...
who can make you laugh harder than anyone...
who brings you a cup of coffee in bed, (along with a brush and a mirror sometimes)...
my favorite person to share my life, my everything with...
no, thirty four years is not very long,
nor nearly long enough...
